Raef Judd Takes His First Win In An Exciting Late Model Race!
Timmonsville, SC (May 28th, 2010) – After the excitement last week in the Late Model division at the Florence Motor Speedway I don’t know how you could have topped it this week, but boy they sure did. Legend Rudy Branham would make his return after a lengthy time away from the track.
Branham would quickly show everybody he would be the man to beat in qualifying taking the top spot. Last year’s track champion Jamey Lee would start on the outside pole with Branham.
On the start Branham would pull out to the early advantage with Lee falling into second position. Raef Judd who timed in third would pull up to Lee’s bumper.
The early caution would come out on lap eleven when rookie Jordan Smith would loop his car around on the frontstretch making light contact with the outside wall. He continued on running in the seventh spot.
Branham would again pull Lee on the restart. This time Lee closed up on the back of Branham but was never able to might any kind of charge to get by Branham. He did get under him a few times but never mustered up enough to get by him.
Archie Adams Sr. would bring out the second caution around half way as he lost continue of his number seventeen in turn two. No contact was made and he continued on.
This time Lee was able to stay up with Branham and the two raced down the backstretch on the restart. Branham had the slight advantage with Lee holding the bottom. Jamey was able to get up to Rudy’s door before contact was made between the two. Both cars would go spinning out of turn four.
This allowed Raef Judd too slip by and take the lead. Damage was done to both machines and both continued on.
On the final restart of the night, it was Judd and Archie Adams Sr. doing battle. Adams Sr. looked to have the better car but Judd was able to go by Adams off turn two. Judd set sail into the night as he took home his first ever feature win at the Florence Motor Speedway.
The battle between Jamey Lee and Rudy Branham was not over yet. Both cars would take the cool down lap side by side stopping several times in turn one and turn four. Nothing ever escalated and both parties loaded their cars up.
Fifty one years of racing and Archie Adams Sr. still has it going on. He came home second over Rudy Branham, Jamey Lee, Archie Adams Jr., RJ West and Jordan Smith.
Curtis Peoples took home his second victory in a row after an exciting battle with Wayne Locklair. Both would beat and bang fenders never spinning each other out. Wayne Locklair came home second after he and Jon Martin made contact going into turn one. Martin came home third.
Russ Turner Jr. continues to dominate the Stock 4 Cylinder division as he took home another win. Kevin Jackson was second and Jarrett Smith third.
Tyler Howell, took home the win in the Young Guns division over Joshua Dean.
The Florence Motor Speedway is back in action next weekend with a special Shriner’s Cup division race. The Late Model Stock Cars, Super Stock, Stock 4 Cylinder and Young Guns will all be racing once again.

Door to Door Action and More at Florence Motor Speedway
Timmonsville, SC (May 25, 2010) – Door to Door Action and More at Florence Motor Speedway! That’s right race fans! This Friday night will be, another action packed night of local stock car racing, all provided by “living local legends”! Let me clarify the “living local legends”. Their names are Turner, Peoples, Weatherford, and of course the Locklair Brothers and many, many more! You see last week is history and this Friday will be another historic evening. Another chapter will be written and you’ll want to witness it in person. Now to recap what happened last week.
Headlining the show was the Allison Legacy Series. It was a big show in a small package as the group of drivers came from as many as four different states to meet the challenge of ending a three race winning streak of Justin Allison. The drivers took to the track for qualifying and for the second straight week, Justin qualified on the pole. This being another first as the racing bloodline pursues another generation up the racing ladder. Justin had his work cut out for him as he raced Hunter Devers for command of the field. Once the duel ended, it was Allison out front until lap twenty when he spun in turn four. The next three cars of Hunter Devers, Bobby McCarty and Gus Dean missed Allison but tangled with each other. When the track was cleared of broken fiberglass and bent parts, the first five were now the last five. Tyler Hill took control of the group for all but the last remaining laps of the race as those last five worked their way to the front. Allison took advantage of Hills falter in the closing laps to take a record fourth win in a row. Devers finished in second and Garrett Bunch in third. Tyler Hill finished fourth and the top-five finisher was veteran Legacy Series driver Michael Cooper. Garrett Bunch was the Hard Charger of the Race. Justin LaDuke was the Rookie of the Race.
Local division wins went to Cory Weather in the FMS Young Guns feature. Russ Turner Jr. added another feature win to his resume in the Stock Four Cylinder feature. The Super Stock feature win went to Curtis Peoples as he out dueled the Locklair’s! The Late Model Stock Car feature win went home to Manning, SC with Averitt Lucas driving the Lucas Racing, Clarendon Auto Parts/Ed Gibbons Chevrolet.
When you come to the track this Friday, there will be some surprises in store for you and you’ll have to be there to find out what they are! In the mean time you can check out track facts, at the Florence Motor Speedway website.

Allison Legacy Series This Friday at Florence Motor Speedway
Timmonsville, SC (May 18, 2010) – The Allison Legacy Series will be at Florence Motor Speedway this Friday night, May 21st for a special 50 lap feature event. Seventeen year old Justin Allison has won the last 3 races this year, at Rockingham, Hickory and Wake County. He’s the current point’s leader and a first for him in the three years he’s been competing in the ALRS. Justin is a third generation Allison family driver and aspires to move up to a Late Model race car soon. Along with this exciting touring series, you’ll see great two and three wide racing in all the local racing divisions!
ABOUT THE CAR
The Allison Legacy car is a three-quarter sized replica of a Sprint Cup car and is powered by a four cylinder MAZDA B-2200 truck engine that produces approximately 125 horsepower. The cars use the standard MAZDA five-speed transmission.
The cars weigh about 1,400 pounds dry but must weigh a minimum of 1,675 pounds with driver to race. The series is a “SPEC” series designed to minimize your racing costs and place the emphasis on the driver instead of the equipment.
“The Allison Legacy Cars are excellent equipment for the beginner to get his or her first exposure to racing,” said David Pearson, winner of 105 NASCAR Winston Cup races. “They are well designed and professionally constructed cars that will give the drivers the same feel and experience they would get from a bigger and more powerful car.”
The Allison Brothers, sons of former NASCAR competitor Donnie Allison, are the creators of the Allison Legacy car. Rules and National technical inspections are strictly enforced to limit alterations to the basic car. The engines are sealed and can only be rebuilt through Allison Brothers Race Cars. The engines are resealed before shipment back to the competitor. Almost all parts are spec and cannot be modified for competition.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Allison Legacy Touring Series offers a professional to intermediate racing program. This unique and innovative program attracts drivers, new and old, with or without experience, and has proven to be a valuable stepping stone for drivers looking to further a racing career.
“It’s important to offer a program for everybody who wants to be involved,” explained Kenny Allison. “We are growing as a series and as a promotional outlet. Drivers are able to get valuable exposure and experience with our program that can contribute to furthering a racing career. At the same time, people who want to get into racing just for fun can maintain and operate the car in this series on a minimal budget, and with little or no experience.”
There are 22 Touring Races scheduled for 2010. Most events will be 50 laps. Some are 35 laps and a 200 lapper is scheduled for November 6th at Florence Motor Speedway. The Touring Series runs on Kershaw and Rockingham road courses. There are approximately 150 regional events in different areas around the country.

Racing Friday Nights @ Florence Motor Speedway!
Timmonsville, SC (April 7, 2010) - The racing program at Florence Motor Speedway moves to this Friday, April 9th at 8:00 pm. The pit gate will open at 1:00 pm for practice and registration. Featured classes this season include Late Models, Super Stocks, Stock 4 Cylinders, Young Guns and the Shriner’s Cup (former Bomber class). During opening night, spectacular racing took place in all divisions and provided race fans of all ages with a preview of the excitement to come in 2010.
In the Late Model Stock Car feature, Justin Shorter drove the number 45 Shorter Racing Chevrolet to checkered flag ahead of Archie Adams Jr. and 3 Brother’s Racing “Rookie” - Austin Leitner! It took a couple starts to get the feature under way as the drivers learned to control their adrenalin and make some pit stops to adjust bent sheet metal. While it was “Rookie” Leitner setting the fastest time in qualifying, it was “Racing Expert” Rudy Branham that grabbed the lead. Leitner may be a rookie in a late model, he’s a veteran in a 600 Legends racecar. He’s taken to driving a late model fast and demonstrated he’s aggressive. A little altercation placed these two in the rear at a point in the race that had the crowd on the edge of their seat. Earlier though, there was some bumping and missed shifts that caused some collisions on the front stretch. The cars of Remington Prince and Ronnie Daniels suffered the most damage but were able to resume after quick pit stops. A couple of attempts by Archie Jr., in the closing laps to take the lead from Shorter came up short, and Leitner finished his final lap in third.
The Super Stock feature win went to “Hot Foot” Kevin Jackson as he beat Curtis Peoples to the checkered flag. The race began with Timmy Flowers on the inside row locked in a door-to-door heat with Peoples. Peoples gained the lead and “Hot Foot” began his warm up for a challenge. Jon Martin and Ken McClary dealt with the competitors Ken Freeman, Adam Dowling, and Flowers until they closed on the checkered flag for third and fourth.
Excitement in the Stock 4 Cylinder began with Dwayne Potter in control of the field and “Hot Foot” Jackson next in pursuit! Russ Turner Jr. raced up to challenge Jackson until “Hot Foot” found his footing next to Potter for the lead. The two tangled in turn four in a crash that eliminated Jackson. Potter managed to come out of unscathed and returned to race from the rear. Jarrett Smith and Russ Turner inherited the new front row on the restart. Smith and Turner had the crowd standing as they battled for the final laps. Smith brought the Bennett Law Firm Ford Mustang to the checkers for his first feature win of 2010. Turner, Potter, and Bobby Tumbleston III finished in the consecutive order.
Additional entertainment of the evening came from a presentation by The Jamil Jet Shriner’s of Sumter, the Shriner’s Cup Cars and the FMS Young Guns. The excitement continues this Friday, April 9th at 8:00 pm when the “Racing and Fun” takes place at Florence Motor Speedway.
